The SG400/800 is based on the SG3110/SG7100 Ricoh technologies. Sawgrass had experience with these printers as they sold aftermarket ink to these solutions for over 2 years prior. In modifying the printer to make it a sublimation friendly Sawgrass made some subtle mechanical and software changes which transformed the printers from an office printer with dye sub ink into a fully integrated sublimation printer.
This is unique about the SG400/800:
1. Printing resolutions - Dye sub customers need the ability to print high quality and resolution, photos. As a result, we opened the printing capability of the printers. This also lead to a reduction in banding customers experience when printing images with skies or large blocks of color.
2. A Mac solution - Dye sub customer needed a solution that supports a Mac and we delivered with the New Virtuoso Print Manger, which replaced Power Driver for the SG400/SG800 printers
3. More colors and brighter output - Customers like the images to look bright. With the new Sublijet HD we changed the formulation so that there was more dye so that the optical density of the ink is greater and the images appear brighter.
4. Extended ink shelf life- The new ink formulation also removed components that were not considered “green” and as a result we can also provide an 18-month shelf life on the ink. It is also developed with Ricoh so that we optimized the properties of the ink with the print head as a result in the printers lasting longer in the field.
5. Use less ink printing – We also improved the yield of the printer which means you can print 25% more with a set of carts than you can with a set of Sublijet carts through a Ricoh 3110. The chips are programed based on our ink property for maximum performance.
6. Expanded gamut- Continually looking for ways to increase the color gamut by profiling, ink and printing resolutions as a result the SG400/800 has a 25% larger gamut.
7. Optimal Color output by substrate and paper type- Provide profiles in the software which are built based on paper and substrate materials for optimal consistent color output.
8. Eliminated known printer technical issues-We developed a new cartridge that helps us control the amount of air that gets introduced in the lines. When error is introduced in the line the printer has an error code that appears --- this has been eliminated but for the 3110 it was one of our largest technical support issue
9. Free template and image software- To help new users print faster we developed Creative Studio which is cloud based software that gives new users templates and images
10. Easier set up- The sawgrass solutions are easy to set up and come with all the necessary documentation to get the users printing
11. Evolved from a print driver to a RIP like print manager-have updated our print driver capabilities with the introduction of the Virtuoso Print Manager (VPM). The VPM allows users to use RIP like functionality like hot folders which allows easier printing.
As a result, our business has never had less issues and more users printing. With an RMA percent of less than 2% globally which includes shipping opportunities these printers offer the safest sublimation solution in the market. If there is an issue we offer a 2-year printer warranty in Europe.
